What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?

July 22, 2019 Jon Tutaj
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu | Tutaj Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is a comprehensive martial art focused on real-world self-defense. It prepares students to handle aggressive situations—whether an attacker is striking, kicking, or wrestling—by using grappling-based techniques that subdue opponents without relying on punches or kicks.

Our approach empowers students to neutralize threats, even from larger or stronger opponents, while promoting a less violent and more controlled response. This builds not only physical skill but also the confidence to make smart, calm decisions under pressure.

BJJ is especially effective for kids and women, where technique, leverage, and timing allow smaller individuals to defend themselves successfully. We believe that our students leave each class better equipped—mentally and physically—to handle conflict in a safe and confident manner.

What is TUTAJ?

February 25, 2019 Jon Tutaj

Tutaj is my last name.  Contrary to popular belief, it isn't pronounced anywhere near how it is spelled. It is pronounced like "too tie" [too-tahy]. Also, tutaj is Polish for "here" and an example pronunciation is at the following link:
